Name: Lou Gee

About me: I am an energetic, compassionate personal assistant with a good listening ear. I bring with me the belief that everyone can communicate, and it is the responsibility of the caregivers in the child's life to facilitate this; non-verbal never means non-communicative. In my future occupational therapy practice, I wish to train in Sensory Integration, with a view to supporting neurodivergent children and adults (with or learning disability), with a particular focus on supporting women/girls and non-binary people who have been overlooked by mainstream services to receive a formal diagnosis for learning difficulties. I spend my free time bouldering, dancing, singing, and reading about occupational therapy. I speak a little bit of Spanish.

Experience: I have an undergraduate degree in music, an MSc in psychology, and I am now studying to be an Occupational Therapist. In my varied career, I have worked as a mainstream/additional needs singing and performing arts teacher, a support worker, and a teaching assistant. I have worked with children with a variety of additional needs, including Global Developmental Delay, Autism, ADHD/ADD, Dyslexia, Down's syndrome, and more. I have taught performing arts 1:1 and in groups. I have some experience with personal care - where I have gaps, I am enthusiastic and willing to learn! I am trained in classical singing and play the clarinet.

Availability information: I am available weekends and all day Wednesdays and Friday. I would consider overnight PA work.

Additional Information: I am based one mile north of Southampton City Centre. I see every client holistically and unique and varied individuals. I endeavour to leave preconceptions at the door and be led by the client and their caregivers with regards to care. I take a strengths-based approach at all times.
